Shillong, March 19 (IANS) Former Indian Forest Service officer T.H.S. Bonny on Tuesday filed his nomination papers from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat as a candidate of Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM).
Bonny, a 1985 batch officer, quit the service in 2005 and plunged into active politics in the run-up to the Meghalaya assembly elections in 2018.
"I have decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections after seeing the miserable plight of the people in almost all rural areas under Shillong parliamentary seat," Bonny told journalists after filing his nomination papers.
He also hit out at the ruling National People's Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government and previous governments for lack of development in all sectors.
Bonny will face sitting Congress member, Vincent H. Pala and United Democratic Party candidate Jemino Mawthoh, who is supported by the partners of the MDA government, save the BJP, which has decided to fight both the state's Lok Sabha constituencies on its own.
