Dr. Darashaw Nosherwan Wadia, great pioneer in Indian Geology and professor in development of geo-scientific research in the country, passed away at New Delhi at the age of 86.

4/15/1658Raja Jaswant Singh was defeated at Dharmat. He was sent by Shahjahan and Dara Shukoh to resist Aurangzeb's advance towards Agra.
2/19/1812Congregational missionaries Adoniram Judson, 23, and his wife Ann, 22, first sailed from New England to Calcutta. (Judson eventually concentrated his labors in Burma).
5/2/195340 persons were reported losing their lives today in the first crash of a jet airliner in commercial service. The jetliner, a British-built Comet, plunged to earth in a violent storm just a few minutes after taking off from Calcutta. It was carrying a party of rubber and tin operators from Malaya to England. There were no survivors. Two Comets have crashed before, one last October and one in March, but neither was carrying passengers.
3/4/2000Geeta Mukherjee (76), veteran communist leader, died of a massive heart attack in New Delhi. Popularly known as 'Geetadi', she won every Lok Sabha election from Panskura in West Bengal since 1980.
